This week's theme is The Artist in Me. We are going to explore all types of art and learn that art is not just coloring and painting pictures!
We started our morning introducing ourselves and playing an ice breaker game to learn more fun facts about our amicas! After our meet and greet, we talked about our week.
There are tons of different forms of art. Art can be drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, printmaking, computer design and graphics, ceramics, collage, photography and jewelry making to name some examples. And with all art, there is usually a subject matter-- what is the work about. My amicas had fun telling me possible ideas for subject matter...objects, people, other living things (plants and animals), places and spaces, and events. Another important aspect of art is the media--the material or substance used to make the art (oil paint, acrylic paint, pencils, pen, ink, film, etc).
Today we explored the world of photography! Since there was such a large group today, we split into 4 groups. Each group had the same assignment, but having smaller numbers in each group allowed for more attention and time for each Amica!
All my amicas, had to take the following pictures...
- wide angle and then zoom in on the same object
- self portrait using a mirror (this was a bit tough for some, so they decided to take a self portrait without the mirror)
- take a picture of an object from three different angles (eye level, above and below)
- take a picture of the front and back of an object
- take a picture of something that shows movement
I was extremely impressed with the pictures they took! WOW! I was so excited, that I DROPPED my camera!!!! It needs to go to the camera shop, as now the pictures are not too clear and I can't see out of my lens!!! After each group was finished we uploaded their 4 favorites to my computer and then edited our pictures. Some wanted to change the color all together, some wanted to color boost the picture, some wanted to add edges, and some wanted to do nothing and keep the picture the way they took it! It was so much fun seeing all my amicas creativity! Here are some pictures my amicas took!
These pictures are going to look fantastic at our art show on Thursday!
While my amicas were waiting for their other amicas to be finished taking pictures they worked nicely in their journals answering the question of the day. And while we were waiting for lunch they went back to their small groups to create their story of the day! (Notice how my pictures get a little grainy from after the camera drop!)
Tomorrow we are going to be busy using a different type of media! Get ready for lots of color!
