The first project was creating watercolors from corn syrup and food coloring. First, my amicas were to draw with crayon on their piece of paper and outline what they wanted their picture to look like. But they were not allowed to color in any empty spaces. For example, if they were going to draw a flower, then they simply would draw the flower, but leave the petals open and not colored in, as this is where they corn syrup/food coloring paint would be placed. The girls had fun creating their watercolors and some found it interesting how the "paint" was so thick. When going over how "a little goes a long way", I was showing them how this type of "paint" was different than the paint they are used to. I took the bowl and turned it completely upside down over one of my amicas head and they all gasped; but my paint never moved! It was a neat trick to play on them (and one that I tried over by the sink first while no one was looking)!
While we were transitioning into the second art craft of the day my amicas were busy answering their question of the day in their journals and enjoying a morning snack.
Our second craft was painting on canvas. They had a few options here...they could use masking tape and tape out a pattern or design and then paint around the masking tape, they could paint the background of the canvas and then use a paper towel roll to create a picture, or they could just paint the canvas however they liked. I loved seeing all their imaginations run wild! The ones that used masking tape, will remove their tape in the morning once their painting dries and I can't wait to see what the finished product will look like!
My amicas had some outside time today too as it was beautiful and to shake their sillies out! We ended the day with creating our story of the day in our small groups.
Moms and Dads....these amicas are beyond excited for their art show tomorrow!!!! They were talking about it today as they were painting! Instead of picking up your amicas at 12:30 tomorrow, please come at 1:00. This is when the Art Show will start and you will be able to walk around and view all the amazing pieces these amicas have been working on this week! Once you have seen your amicas art and they have showed you everything that they wanted to, please help them gather all their pieces to take home.
After all they have done in the past two days, there are STILL two more crafts to do before the art show in the afternoon.....I hope all my amicas get a good nights rest so their painting hands will be ready!
